An excerpt from “The Twilight Language of Gorakh Bodh”
The life-giving element of the Sun resides in the fire of Apana.
As long as Sun–Apana is active, Life will continue to manifest itself — but it will also carry with it the ignorance of mortality.
While Sun–Apana remains active and holds Prana, we remain trapped in the endless circle of Samsara, existing in the state of Amaavas.
Existence in the darkness of ignorance of ordinary mortal life is called Amaavas.
A giver is also a taker.
That is why the giver of mortal life — Ravi, the Sun, or untamed Apana — should be understood as the darkest night.
As already explained in previous shlokas, the performance of Khechari Mudra stimulates the brain, leading to the production of Amrita, the nectar of life.
If this nectar is not directed toward the heart through specific yogic techniques, it eventually descends into the fire of the digestive center.
Representing the intensive heat of the Sun, Apana, or the inner fire, devours and burns the elixir of eternal life — thereby making death inevitable.
